"Jenny James' midlife road trip with a reclusive stranger gave me all sorts of ideas . . . Warm, witty, relatable, poignant—Jenny is a delight!" —Emma Grey, bestselling author of The Last Love Note

Embark on a road trip around the British countryside with Jenny James Is Not a Disaster by bestselling author Debbie Johnson. She's Up to No Good meets Someone Else's Shoes.

There's having a bad day . . . and then there's having a Very Bad Day.

Thirty-something single mum Jenny James is used to the typical run-in-your-tights, milk-turned-sour, break-a-nail bad kind of day. Attitude from her teenage son? Count on it. Car problems? To be expected. Never quite enough money for monthly expenses? Guaranteed.

And then arrives the Very Bad Day—when Jenny finds out her dull but reliable office job is in jeopardy, her car totally and completely breaks down, and she arrives home (on foot) just in time to see her modest-but-cozy cottage sliding off a cliff into the sea. Jenny's life—not to mention her home—has reached its ultimate low point.

Estranged from her parents since she became pregnant at age eighteen and set out on her own, Jenny has nowhere to turn when she and her son, Charlie, find themselves without a place to live. Her neighbor, the reclusive but attractive Luke who lives alone with his dog in a surprisingly homey RV, opens up his camper—and his vagabond lifestyle—to Jenny and her son.

As the unlikely threesome—four including the dog—hit the road, Jenny finds herself experiencing a new sense of freedom as she reflects on who she was, who she is, and who she could become. Maybe when you fall, you actually find the best way to move forward.

Filled with laughter, love, and unexpected twists, get ready for a delightful adventure as Jenny James discovers that sometimes the best way to find yourself is to get lost on the open road. You're going to fall in love with Debbie Johnson's heartwarming novel (previously published in the UK as FALLING FOR YOU). Now available for the first time in the US!

Johnson's English protagonist Jenny James is having the bad day to end all bad days: it's been pouring rain for days, she might lose her job in a week due to budget cuts, she and her teenage son Charlie are fighting, and then her car breaks down, which forces her to take a bus home. All she wants is to snuggle up for a night in, but when she gets off the bus she sees her house sliding into the sea, its foundation eroded by the rain. What does a person do when life suddenly forces a detour? In Jenny and Charlie's case, they decide to take a two-week trip in an RV with a neighbor, Luke, seeing the sights of England. It gives Jenny time to reflect on what she wants out of life, decide to mend broken relationships with her family, and start a tentative new relationship with Luke. VERDICT This sweet novel serves as a good reminder that sometimes the worst days can kick-start positive changes. Johnson's Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater was turned into a Hallmark movie, and her latest has a similar tone.--Jennie Mills
