The 14th in the Mrs. Pollifax series, Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled joins its predecessors as a delightful source of entertainment and suspense. After all her harrowing adventures in various parts of the world, America's most endearing and unlikely CIA agent is bored with her gardening.
When headquarters calls with a deadly mission, she's ready with passport in hand. After single-handedly thwarting hijackers on a flight to the Middle East, a young American woman has become an instant celebrity. Following television interviews at the airport in Damascus, she disappears. Was she kidnapped by the terrorists, or is she just hiding? Posing as the girl's aunt, Mrs. P. searches for her "niece" and uncovers a sinister plot that could send shock waves around the world.
Part of the anticipation of hearing about Mrs. Pollifax's latest adventures is knowing that narrator Barbara Rosenblat will be part of the package. Both popular in their own right, they make an irresistible team.

In this latest book in Gilman's series, Mrs. Pollifax flies to Syria on another mission. She must find Amanda Pym, a young American who saved 200 people on a highjacked plane and then disappeared. Even though Mrs. Pollifax is a harmless appearing grandmother, Sharon Williams often makes her voice sound too young and sweet. As the story progresses however, Williams finds a more settled and mature voice for Mrs. Pollifax. Williams gives an appropriate ring of authority to Carstairs and changes easily into an Arabic accent when needed, and her clear diction and excellent pacing draw us deeper and deeper into the adventure. This fourteenth Mrs. Pollifax novel is narrated by Barbara Rosenblat and includes an interview with the author at the end. On a mission in the Middle East, Mrs. Pollifax searches for a missing American woman. Rosenblat comfortably exudes the charm, suspense, and inquisitive nature of the characters and the foreign setting they travel through. Author and narrator mutually complement each other's talents in this short, yet pleasing, mystery. B.J.L. (c) AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine
