Graphic artist and painter Buividavice begins her book with a relatable story about trying to find the medium that best allows her to express her creativity. Watercolor painting is that medium for her, but her book consistently emphasizes that painters need to find the methods that work for them. At first glance, readers may think this book is a how-to because of its title, but that is not the case. The first half is dedicated to techniques and explanations of the intricacies of watercolor, such as the different types of appropriate paintbrushes. The second half includes projects, but there are also brief overviews of examples, not detailed, step-by-step tutorials. There is also a section that includes recommended reading for further study and even a Spotify playlist to invoke calm while painting. The book contains an index, which will be helpful for readers who want to use this as a ready reference while working. VERDICT A great title for beginners or readers looking for new inspiration in watercolor techniques. The illustrations are all nature-based, making it an excellent option for the summer season.--Elizabeth Chandler
